The school year is now well under way at Albion and our students are settling into their routines and classes. At the equestrian center, we’re also settling into our fall routine and we’ve held tryouts for our three equestrian teams (hunt seat, dressage, and stock seat) as we gear up for an exciting season of competition.
With the new year, we’ve also promised you, our readers, some new faces on the blog and today we’d like to take an opportunity to introduce them:
Katie Petchell is a sophomore from Pinckney, Michigan who rides as a member of the Albion stock seat team. Currently on track to become an accountant (we’ll let her tell you more about that in her blog), she is a part of the Gerstacker and Honors programs and is also a campus tour guide in her spare time.
Sarah Morris is, like Katie, a sophomore and hails from South Lyon, Michigan. Like Katie, she is also part of the Gerstacker program for economics and management, but when it comes to riding, Sarah is one of the more unique riders at Albion. When on campus, she rides as a member of the Albion dressage team but when she’s at home, she’s often to be found riding saddleseat or driving in harness classes at Morgan breed shows. She is also the treasurer of the Albion College Equestrian Club.
Lauren Levy is a junior at Albion this fall and came to us from Amherst, Massachusetts. (She brought her warmblood/Thoroughbred cross Bailey with her in her luggage.) Lauren keeps herself very busy on campus with a major in political science, one minor in Spanish, and a second minor in economics and management – to say nothing of her coursework in the Honors program. When she’s at the barn, she’s either training as a member of the hunt seat team or working with our director as she continues her British Horse Society certification. (She passed Stages 1 and 2 last spring!)
Introductory blogs from our three newbies will be posted soon so that you can get to know them in their own words. We will also continue to receive periodic updates from Mary in Florida and Jesha and Kjirsten here in Albion as the year progresses. Any questions you have for our students can be posted here in the comments section or on our Facebook page and we’ll get them answered.
